چکیده

The emerging technology in biomedical engineering requires biocompatible materials, which are also referred to as biomaterials. For a material be considered biocompatible, it should not interact with human tissues harmful way, and vice versa. Various properties of such mechanical optical properties, have for different applications. One the most popular applications biomaterials is contact lenses. Hydrogels, specifically poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) hydrogels, among ones ophthalmologic applications, especially soft This paper reviews use PHEMA hydrogels one important possible manufacturing process lens addressed. Many studies shown that possess many advantages promising development prospects.

Tailoring the swelling pressure of degrading dextran hydroxyethyl methacrylate hydrogels.

Swelling pressure measurements were performed on degrading dextran hydroxyethyl methacrylate (dex-HEMA) hydrogels. In these networks, the cross-links are hydrolyzable carbonate ester bonds formed between methacrylate groups and dextran molecules. It is demonstrated that dex-HEMA gels made in the presence of a known amount of free dextran chains exhibit osmotic properties similar to those of par...

Silicone Hydrogels Materials for Contact Lens Applications

Silicone hydrogel (Si-Hy) materials combine the benefi ts of silicone or siloxane derivates in terms of oxygen permeability and mechanical properties with those of hydrogels in terms of wettability and hidrophilicity. Such properties are critical when it comes to the application at the ocular surface in the form of contact lenses (CL) to correct visual dysfunctions, as bandage mechanism or as d...

2,3-Dihydroxypropyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate hydrogels: gel structure and transport properties

The drying kinetics were examined in four cross-linked polymers that form hydrogels: 2,3-Dihydroxypropyl methacrylate (DHPMA) and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and two random copolymers, with one-to-one and three-to-one HEMA-to-DHPMA molar ratios. The hydrogels were saturated with buffered, isotonic saline solution and deionized water; weight loss kinetics were monitored at temperatures fr...

Intra and intermolecular relaxations 2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate hydrogels

The dynamic mechanical transitions present in the 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and 2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate (DHPMA) homopolymers and two random copolymers, with one-to-one and three-to-one HEMA-to-DHPMA molar ratios, were examined by analyzing the dry xerogels and hydrogels at various states of hydration. The temperatures of the primary a transition and the secondary b and g trans...

The effect of polar copolymers in protein absorption on contact lenses on 2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA)

For the purpose of increasing the permeability to oxygen and equilibrium water content in contact lenses, polar copolymers with nonionic monomers such as 2-hydroxyethle methacrylate(HEMA) Is used. By adding the polar monomers to (HEMA), the permeability to oxygen and equilibrium with water content is increased and also the absorption of proteins on lens surface is changed. In this research, the...
